Capturing moments is incredibly easy using the Kaymbu app! This article covers the steps you'll take. If you'd like to see this feature in action, review the Video Tutorial at the bottom of the page.
From any screen within the app, you can add a new observation, by clicking the notepad (for text-only anecdotes) or the camera (for photos or videos) in the top right corner. This will allow you to directly enter an anecdote or take a photo or video.
Once you see the capture screen, press the camera button on the right-hand side of your screen to capture the moment. For video, choose the video camera icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Everything you initially capture will be stored in the "Drafts" section of the app, which is conveniently located at the top of the Menu. Your Drafts take up storage space on your account, so you'll want to publish or delete them regularly. To publish one observation at a time, simply tap on the observation. If you'd like to publish multiple observations as a group, tap on the bulk publish icon (see bottom right of the image below). Scroll to the end of this article to learn more about bulk publishing!
On the next screen, you'll be able to edit your photo, as well as fully annotate your observation.
If necessary, the first thing you'll want to do is make any edits to your photo. You can crop and rotate photos directly in the app, simply click on the crop icon.
You will be taken to the editing page. You can drag the corners to crop, and use the icons on the bottom to rotate.
Once a Draft has been edited, you are ready to tag the relevant student(s) in the observation. This is whose assessment the observation will be attached to, and whose families will receive the observation if you choose to share it. You'll notice each student has a number to the top right corner of the image. The number shows how many observations you've connected to the student's profile so far this week. You can also add a caption and/or note at this time to complete your evidence.
If you're adding an Anecdote, the workflow will be the exact same. Simply type your title and notes, and attach to student profiles following the same steps.
At this time, you can also attach a one of your Learning Tags to the observation. Simply click in the luggage tag in the lower lefthand corner to to select the Tags you'd like to connect to the observation. You can learn more about Learning Standards Tags here.
After you've attached all the additional information you'd like, your final step is to save the observation! This can be done in four ways:
- Send Now - Sends the information immediately out to the families of the tagged student.
- Send in Digest - Sends the information out at the scheduled time. You can control when your digest goes out under Settings > Messaging.
- Save to Moments - If you have the digest turned off, you'll see a "Save to Moments" option at the bottom right corner. Clicking on this will add it to the Moments page without sending to families.
- Private - Clicking on Private and saving will allow you to privately store this observation in your account. If you know this is something you'll never want to share with families, this is a great option. You can always change this Private setting on a specific Moment by editing the Moment.
Bulk Publishing
If you want to upload a larger group of photos at once, you can use the Bulk Publish feature! You may choose this option if you are uploading photos from a recent field trip or if there was a class activity in which everyone participated. The workflow will again be the same, but you will be selecting multiple observations from your Drafts page in the Kaymbu app, then tagging the corresponding students and learning standard tags. The text that you add will be applied to every single Moment that was uploaded together. You can see what this process will look like from your Drafts page to your Moments page in the following series of images:
