How do Families Receive Information?
Families can receive information in various ways, but our best recommendation is through the Kaymbu for Families App. Not only does the Kaymbu for Families app allow families to select their notification settings, but it also serves as a hub for all information that is shared, including Moments, Storyboards, Daily Sheets, and Messages.

Family Contact Methods
Families can receive communication from the Kaymbu system via app notifications in the Kaymbu for Families app, email, or text messages, depending on their stored contact information.
Teachers can support families by making changes to their notifications as well. From the Roster, teachers can toggle email notifications and app notifications on and off. If a family member has not yet downloaded the Kaymbu for Families app, the App Notification option will be disabled by default.
You can learn more about adding family members and their contact information in this Family Management article.
For Attendance users, families can opt to receive Attendance notifications as well. Please note that families will first need to enable app notifications in order to access and enable their Attendance notifications.
App Notifications
App notifications are available to families who have downloaded Kaymbu for Families. Once families have signed into the app, they will be prompted to enable notifications. Enabling notifications will send push notifications whenever content has been shared with families.
Families can customize their email and app notifications directly through the Kaymbu for Families app! This functionality will allow families to select their preferred notification settings by choosing between email, app notifications, or both.
It is important to note that notifications must be enabled for the Kaymbu for Families app (which can also be accessed through the device's settings) in order for families to have the ability to customize their app notification settings.
Attendance Notifications
For programs that utilize Kaymbu's Attendance feature, families can opt to receive real-time Attendance notifications alerting them of when their child is checked in/out for the day, or marked absent.
Similar to app or email notifications, Attendance notifications can be accessed and customized by a director or teacher via the Roster, while families have the ability to customize their notification preferences directly from the family app. For more information on accessing and customizing Attendance Notifications, you can click here.
Please note that families will first need to enable app notifications in order to receive Attendance notifications on the family app.
Email & Text Message
If families do not have the Kaymbu for Families app, communication and content regarding their child will be sent via email. Email is the default method of communication for families. If a family member has both an email and a phone number in their profile, all communication will default to email.
It is important to note that families will only receive text messages (SMS) if an Announcement is marked as Urgent.
Urgent Messages
When a Message is sent as Urgent, families will receive notifications across all stored contact methods. For example, if a family member has the Kaymbu for Families app as well as their email and phone number saved to their profile, they will receive notifications through all three methods.
What Notifications Will Families Receive?
After customizing Notification Settings, families will receive content via their selected method - email, app notifications, or both. Families will receive notifications when the content below is sent to them:
- Moments
- Daily Sheets
- Messages (Conversations & Announcements)*
- Portfolios and Family Reports
- Lesson Plans
- Attendance updates (Check In, Check Out, Marked Absent)
* Families will also receive text messages (SMS) if an Announcement is marked as Urgent.
